The mismatched signatures thing is such bullshit. In this New York Times story, the signature used for reference was scrawled onto an electronic screen at the DMV years ago. When it didn't match this year's ballot, the ballot was tossed. There were 5,000 ballots eliminated for signature mismatches. The story also raises the very good point that we don't teach kids cursive anymore, so they don't have their signatures down and it can vary wildly from one year to the next. I have to give it to the GOP, though, they have really mined the depths of their biases to come up with all new ways to target Democratic voters. Truly evil genius at work.

We sign so much shit now, does anyone thoughtfully think through the efficacy of their signature. It’s such a banal act I don’t even think about it. I basically scribble, and that’s without considering writing on screens and card pads that render normal penmanship into shitty Etch-a-Sketch pixels.

Seems to me the "retreated" part is the real problem ... isn't a cocoon of resentment and bitterness pretty much Trump's fons et origo? What does Fonzie have to do with any of this?

Black people can't write!

Everyone should have a, uh, signature signature. And not those stupid ones where it's vaguely a capital letter and a squiggly line.

And signatures are less and less required in the business world anyway. My last few jobs, e-signature (which is not a signature, more of an electronic attestation that it was actually me) was the way we did the onboarding. It's definitely not something that should be held up to some state flunkie decide if you are really you.

My dad’s signature was the first letter of our last name with a squiggly line through it.
Mine isn’t quite that bad. But when we closed on our house and I signed about a billion forms, I’d bet you could find at least 20 variations of my signature, all made within minutes of each other.

Today it’s worth remembering that Rick Scott could not recognize his own signature under oath as he testified in about the massive Insurance fraud he committed.

Is that really true?
The stories I keep reading say that while many THOUGHT cursive would be dead by now, not only are schools still teaching it, but some states have passed laws over the past couple of years mandating it (Louisiana and Arkansas, to name just two).

Can we all agree that this is gross? Yes ... she needs more contrast across color/texture with that ensemble.
