I will say issues like this have made me reconsider my eye-rolling at the slippery slope arguments made years ago. It's taken about 25 years to go from 'Leave me alone in my bedroom' - which a large majority of Americans agree with - to 'YOU MUST ACTIVELY CELEBRATE THE GAYS AT EVERY OPPORTUNITY OR YOU WILL BE OSTRACIZED FROM POLITE SOCIETY.' I honestly didn't believe that progression would happen back in the 1990s when the gay-rights wagon was really gaining steam. I fully expect churches to be stripped of tax-exempt status by about 2040 if they don't allow gay clergy and have gay weddings. There's no live and let live anymore. I'm not sure that's a good thing, but apparently I'm wrong. Bringing this around to the original subject of this tangent: If there’s one thing I know about Philadelphia Flyers fans, it’s their active and unconditional celebration of homosexuality. This “CELEBRATE OR ELSE” thing you’re talking about is not happening on a wide scale anywhere but the corners of the Internet made specifically for people to yell at each other.

That's kind of my point, though. Sure, this just affects one dude who I don't care about with the Flyers. If it were me, I'd just wear the sweater. Not that big of a deal. But I don't see this trend going backwards. None of them do.

This is true but if objectively nothing happens besides people being mad online for 3 days until they fine the next thing to be mad online about then I guess its all come out in the wash

I’m just saying I’d bet my life that there are WAY more Flyers fans who agree with and support the player than support gay pride in any way, shape or form. The player you believe to be ostracized is most likely being embraced by most of the city.

A majority of MLB fans didn’t think the All-Star game should be moved from Atlanta, either. The fringe - or those weird corners of the internet you were talking about earlier - is winning.

I cannot fathom what reason people have to “disagree” with two dudes sucking each other off.
It holds zero appeal to me, but … who gives a shit?

I don’t think many people give a shit until they’re asked to wear a jersey celebrating two dudes sucking each other off. I just think that’s a lot different than ‘you do you.’

After trying to track this thread for like 7 minutes, this all seems deranged. But using that as a sort of totem for homosexuality takes it up a notch. (And if you didn't start that, well, whoever did gets the credit)

It’s weird to say that America wasn’t ready to embrace a gay character when the lead character of a hit, network, sitcom was embraced by America. If they’d embrace Will, they’d embrace other well written gay characters. You post this as if the American people are some monolithic group. They aren't. A percentage of the United States was ready and enough of them liked that show enough to make it work. There were also plenty of Americans who wouldn't give the show a chance due to the sexuality of that character. You know this, or at least you should.

At the same time . . . if some guy or woman with 32 tattoos and 12 piercings (expression!!!) applies for a job and is turned down (consequences!!!) by a manager who doesn't care for that kind of expression in his places of business, the manager is an intolerant asshole.
No matter how you slice it, there's the "right" expression and the "wrong" expression, and "acceptable" consequences and "unacceptable" consequences.
And chances are I'm often not going to be in agreement with who's deciding right, wrong, acceptable and unacceptable.
