I honestly wonder how much of this backlash has to do with the LGBT+ “equality” movement co-opting the word “Pride.”
As in, one can support equal rights and gay marriage and the like without being “proud” of anything. Going back to a few things said here, it implies a stronger degree of support is required.

That has been my main issue from Day 1.
Pride IMO is about accomplishment. Graduated med school. Raised good children. Paid off a debt. "I worked hard, and I did THAT."
It's not for something over which you ostensibly had no control.
Which is why I feel no "pride" about being an American. I feel fortunate for the most part, because there are so many worse alternatives. But I had nothing to do with what piece of soil I squirted out of a womb onto.

It’s fine that people are proud of themselves, especially those who have historically been told something is wrong with them. I’m proud of who I am, but I certainly wouldn’t ask for or expect anyone else to be proud of me. Nor would I take offense to someone not giving a shit about who I am or what I’ve done.

Not choosing to outwardly support a cause is not an indication of a lack of support for said cause.
I don’t copy and paste facebook posts about 22 military vets committing suicide every day.
I don’t wear ribbons.
We all have causes that are important to us. To try and force folks into public support for your cause, no matter how worthy, is wrong to me.
(And, we saw some point this out with all of the pro-military rah-rah b.s. that we’ve seen, including with the NFL. When going on TV after 9/11 without an American Flag lapel pin was cause for suspicion, sone rightly recognized that this should not be interpreted as support for the 9/11 terrorists. But in this case, many have lost all perspective.)

Not choosing to outwardly support a cause is not an indication of a lack of support for said cause. In general, I agree. In this specific case, though, I think it is.

I’m laughing at them, for what it’s worth. But I’m not welcome on “left-wing hockey Twitter.” Be careful out there. Life comes at you fast.

Don’t worry. Other reporters are still digging into this story.

Hopefully there’s an outlet looking for someone who can write about the intersection of hockey and politics.

Sounds like a great opportunity for folks who love narrative writing.
