I’m going to need a ruling from Dick on whether or not those who didn’t finish can call themselves “runners.” Depends on the pace they set before dropping out due to the heat. If they were going at least at a jogging pace then, YES, they are runners who just happened not to finish this race …for understandable reasons. But if they were at an 18 minute per mile pace, like our star of the "trier" thread, then, NO, you are just a walker (and not even a brisk one at that). I appreciate your serious response to a joke post.

Amazing A/C technology inside the actual stadium. Too bad the marathoners had to be outside for their event.

Is that how long she waited? That's a pretty long time.

Australia leading the way.
Sad that the U.S. is not where we need to be in terms of equal pay for women.

Australia leading the way. Sad that the U.S. is not where we need to be in terms of equal pay for women. Now that's historic.

It seems like capitalizing on interest in any sport built in an international event is a fool’s errand. Just too much of a “USA! USA!” element to the popularity.

This is quite true. I don't visit the old place anymore, except on the rarest of occasions. Even before, I only went when I received "Moddy/shortbus think I'm you again!" messages. I don't want to be too hard on Dick (shit, I should word that better), but the whole "kick the ball" thing with a bikini photo in the first post plus his usual Scorched Earth, Pound the Rock Until It Shatters argument style, just set me off this particular time. I shall endeavor to do better. I obviously am a fan of trolling the soccer posers, as I am of trolling posers of any kind. And it sounds like that was a fun thread. But I also . . . wouldn't mind if the inside dirt or references about the Old Watering Hole were kept to the main stickied thread at the top of the board. I understand that is my peccadillo, and solely my problem. I get that. But... just to fill you in on this -- and maybe I'm combining two threads -- the thread was regarding the idea of retraining college basketball stars, who fell short of the NBA, as NBA players, with the idea that, with their superior athleticism, they would make for a better USMNT than the current crop of short, unathletic, soccer players. After all, all you have to do in soccer is run, and kick the ball, and since anyone can do that, faster, stronger, taller, more athletic athletes would make all the difference. And, oh the replies we got... A couple of more weeks of practice, and he’d be the best player on our USMNT.

She was so tough with Trump, but she just rolled over for Biden.
