DD, this is not your best look. I'm unclear what kind of "gotcha" you think this is. Because I left Twitter for five months and then came back? I've been pretty clear about why I took that break. I needed a reset, to break a habit of posting about politics, or I was going to get in a shit ton of trouble at work. I almost never tweet about politics anymore, though I'll occasionally recommend a well-written story that conservatives will whine about when the facts are not favorable to them. Bret Stephens has been consistently bad at his job with the Times, which my old friend Tom Scocca lays out here. The fact that he blamed Twitter, not his own bad powers of reasoning, and said like Haberman that he was leaving (and then immediately went right back to what he was previously doing) remains quite funny to me, and if you think it's analogous to me getting back on Twitter to tweet about the golf majors and the Ryder Cup, well ok then.

List of things that concern me in this situation: 1. Law enforcement "investigating" Constitutionally protected free expression. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | 2. A bunch of idiot teen-agers making an abhorrent joke. I’m not sure it’s plainly protected speech, given the school setting, although the question isn’t free from doubt.

It’s plainly protected from prosecution by the police, who need to butt the fuck out.

Jon Kyl should resign, and Ducey should appoint McSally to the seat.

Who said the police were considering prosecution? It said they were assisting with the investigation. Why should the police be involved, then? Perhaps they wanted trained investigators involved, to the extent it would be constitutionally permissible for the school to punish this conduct.

I could be wrong -- it's happened before -- but given Guy's posting history, I would bet that is not at all what he is getting at.

Didn't Trump have some rant about the Florida election this morning? Honestly I think someone took Il Douche's phone because his Tweets have actually been kind to California and not blaming us for the wildfires.

Fox News went dark to protest Twitter allowing that group to post the home addresses of Tucker Carlson and others. Guessing those other outlets are doing something similar.

I don't know what you're talking about. I'm not on twitter. I didn't know that you took a break and wasn't looking for a gotcha. I like how you usually post, partly bc when it comes to other journalists you seem to take the high road, or maybe it's just that when you go after someone, I often agree. I don't know why but this struck me as petty. That's all.

Pretty good little takedown of Trump by Hagel although YF will think of something bad to say about Hagel.
