None of it makes a lick of sense at this point. CPD first says they scoured 100s of hours of surveillance video with no suspects. Then, suddenly, we have surveillance video with two suspects, right outside the apartment that Smollett entered, pretty much simultaneous to the rope appearing around his neck? And then, the only 60 seconds (at least that's how it sounds) that he's out of camera range are the 60 seconds where the rope appears on him? What would be Sherlock Holmes' explanation? They said persons of interest, not suspects, correct? They're the only people who appear in any video near the time of the incident. They're looking for anyone who can provide leads.

They said persons of interest, not suspects, correct? They're the only people who appear in any video near the time of the incident. They're looking for anyone who can provide leads. "Persons of interest" is typically a euphemism for "suspects." Here is Guglielmi's quote: “They are outside on a street walking," said police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi. "They are in the area that we have determined it could have taken place… in the time and the area. It certainly leads us to have questions for them.’’
He said detectives "still have a lot more cameras to look at. But now that we’ve got potential persons of interest, the focus will be following their paths. Where did they come from and where did they go?”

When someone says, "This is MAGA country," am I to interpret this as that they said, "This is 'Make America Great Again' country!" or is there an actual, common pronunciation of "MAGA"?

The first A is short, the second A is long. "MAG" like the first syllable of "magazine." MAG-uh.

Luckily the police in Chicago don’t have anything else going on that might take their attention away from this whodunnit.

I don't know. I'm in the same boat, but I feel like I've heard this before. Rhyming it with "saga" just seems wrong.

I'm as suspicious of this as anyone, but I think some people on this thread are so dug in on the other side that you won't believe it at all if the story turns out to be true.

I think it's pronounced Krav Maga. Or something.

But remember: The skepticism stemmed from TMZ's initial, sensationalistic report.
If it turns out that Smollett was involved in some minor, brief skirmish in which some drunk idiot called him a "faggot," the #BelieveVictims crowd doesn't get to declare some kind of complete victory.
