Do people actually say this? I guess I watch very little political news. I get it all in print. I don't know. I'm in the same boat, but I feel like I've heard this before. Rhyming it with "saga" just seems wrong. Yes. It rhymes with saga. |

But remember: The skepticism stemmed from TMZ's initial, sensationalistic report. If it turns out that Smollett was involved in some minor, brief skirmish in which some drunk idiot called him a "faggot," the #BelieveVictims crowd doesn't get to declare some kind of complete victory. Sure they do, if the other guys used that word. |

The initial report said that they said, "You're that faggot nigger from 'Empire'!," then poured bleach on him and put a rope around his neck, while also cracking one of his ribs. If it was some dumb shoving match in which someone used the word, "faggot," they don't get to declare victory over the skeptics. If the initial report had been that Smollett got beat up by someone who called him a "faggot," I would not have batted an eye. |

I'm as suspicious of this as anyone, but I think some people on this thread are so dug in on the other side that you won't believe it at all if the story turns out to be true. Nope. If it turns out to be true, I'll happily admit I was wrong. I'll feel bad if it winds up to be completely true. When I read the initial story, I thought, "There is no way in hell this isn't at least mostly made up." |

It was described as a hate crime. A hate crime perpetrated by Trump supporters, on the basis of his race and sexuality, and was supposed to be a representation of everything that's wrong with America under Trump.
