The idea that conservatives don’t catastrophize the world around them … that is an interesting idea. You misspelled "nutty".

I don’t remember ever talking to my kids about climate change.
But I have talked to them about Trump and Jan. 6. The conversation mostly centers around them wondering why he’s such a gigantic asshole and why so many people love him for it. I usually say it’s because they’re assholes, too.
It’s a hard conversation to have with kids who have been taught to live up to a certain standard of behavior and respect for others. Because they see someone who does the same things they get in trouble for, and he not only gets away with it, he’s a hero to tens of millions of people and gets elected to the highest office in the land as a result.

A. Stranger danger is vastly exaggerated. Most people aren't dangerous, and most kids are kidnapped (and abused) by someone they know -- most especially a parent. You know as well as I do that “stranger danger” doesn’t apply only in potential kidnapping situations. We’ve lived in major cities all our lives. We know there’s something lurking around every corner. I’ve taught my kids to have their heads on a swivel or to always stay in well-lit, populated, and visible areas. The stress of learning some basic street smarts is nothing compared to the stress they’d feel if they were ever victims of a crime. And I don’t want them to learn by actually being mugged, like I did.

If you're worried about stressing your kids out, I would strongly suggest you not let them read about the geological history of Yellowstone N.P. It could blow any second. It's due!

Exactly. How do you convince young people to do things the right way when they see him rewarded for doing the opposite?

And I don’t want them to learn by actually being mugged, like I did. I got robbed as a teen-after, under a dimly lit bridge in my hometown. Not fun. I attended an urban college campus and managed to avoid an experience like that only through sheer luck. There were times I walked home alone through relatively secluded areas at odd hours. One time I was the only pedestrian walking on a dimly-lit street and a car slowed down to keep pace with me. There were two guys in the car, both with hats pulled down in a way that made it difficult for me to see their faces. They didn't say a word, but they tracked me for at least a block, most of which I spent taking a mental inventory of the wallet I expected them to try to take. They suddenly sped off, either deciding I didn't look like an easy enough target or they were just fucking with me the whole time. One of the guys I worked with at the school newspaper did get mugged. They slammed him into a wall in a way that he ended up chipping a tooth before taking his wallet.

Whoever said many, many pages ago (and I over-simplify) that a segment of liberals tends to over-diagnose mental health issues and a segment of conservatives tends to under-diagnose mental health issues because that's namby pampy pussy shit was pretty much dead-on, and the rest of this thread is just YF masturbating over presumed "facts" about "the libs."

... a segment of liberals tends to over-diagnose mental health issues ... How come there's no "because that's namby pampy pussy shit" reason proffered for why this is?

Well, you did say "a segment", so I'll suggest that for "a segment" of liberals having one's child needing some mental health assistance is something of a badge of "Look how sophisticated I am" honor.

Got a rare TyWebb "like" out of this. I'm going to drive the two of you back into each other's arms.

That’s not necessarily a bad thing if you believe, like I do, that it’s a drastically underserved area of health care.
