He was the same age I am. I know bigger people are probably more susceptible to this type of thing, but it definitely hits home a little bit, due to the age similarity. We aren't kids any more.

Embiid just went for 70 against the Spurs.

Poor KAT - he only had 62.

I just saw that yesterday was also the 18th anniversary of Kobe’s 81-pointer.
Eerie.

It might be time for the League to consider whether it went too far with the changes in how defense is officiated. The stat inflation has just gone way too bonkers in recent years.
Kinda reminds me of when HR numbers went so haywire toward the end of baseball’s steroid era. You just instinctively knew “wait, something ain’t right here…”

I didn’t think it was quite to “HRs during the steroid era” or “Passing stats in today’s NFL” levels yet. A little deeper dive changes my mind a little.
Games like that are still pretty rare. There have been 14 70-point games in history — and three have been since the start of 2023. To be fair, Wilt Chamberlain had three in the span of two or three months back in 1962.
Sixty points has been topped 85 times. If you take Wilt out, it’s 53 times, and of those, 23 are by active players. But really good active players. The only real outlier I see on the list is Kemba Walker.

Embiid just went for 70 against the Spurs. Was playing against the highly touted Wembanyama an extra motivation?

Funny thing is Wemby had a great game, too — 33 points.
He is really soft on the block, though. Embiid muscled him around easily when they were matched up down low.

The Bucks are firing first-year head coach Adrian Griffin. The Bucks are currently 30-13 and second in the Eastern Conference. However, their defensive performance has dropped considerably from this year to last. Griffin got the Bucks' job, then the Bucks made the big trade getting Damian Lillard. However, in that trade they gave up Jrue Holiday. They lost of one of the league's best defenders, and the subsequent defensive struggles have been too much for the Bucks' brass. www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/39371240/sources-bucks-firing-first-year-head-coach-adrian-griffin

That just doesn't make a lot of sense.

I don't follow the NBA, so maybe this will be akin to my "Michael Sam" take, but this has to be either a serious personality conflict, or an ethics issue.
You don't fire a rookie coach, with 15 years of experience as an assistant, when you are 30-13, because you aren't happy with the performance of the defense.

Some relationships don't need to be saved. But the lack of a reason just seems odd. It's almost like when someone dies, and no one says how, you start to assume it was suicide, or maybe an overdose.

I don’t know what happened with Griffin, but LOL at Doc Rivers being the top candidate to replace him.
