Not a great day in Trumpville.

Too soon to joke about trading a knock down shooter for a post player or nah?

She's free. Not a great day in Trumpville. Members of the Biden foreign policy team were against making this trade. Not sure why you want to hang this on “Trumpers”. Biden gave in to black mail. There are other similar cases, that received far less attention. She got out because she was famous.

Biden could have made this deal at any time.
But, I guess he figured he had more “flexibility” politically after the midterms were over.
Meanwhile, Paul Whalen has been in jail for four years, and was left behind. But he doesn’t play basketball.
Even so, the fact that the deal was a one-for-one swap was a surprise given that U.S. officials had for months expressed their their determination to bring home both Griner and Paul Whelan, a Michigan corporate security executive jailed in Russia since December 2018 on espionage charges that his family and the U.S. government has said are baseless.

Not sure why you want to hang this on “Trumpers”. Not hanging it on them, but don’t they all think she’s a spoiled-rotten, drug-addled bitch who got what she deserved?

What I saw expressed most often was that the former Marine, who’s been held for four years is at least as deserving as she is of the Biden administration’s efforts. This is obviously great news for Griner and her loved ones. Im happy she is free. She was a hostage and a political pawn. But this will further encourage Moscow, Tehran and others to continue to take hostages. And, Bout has been described by folks like Eric Holder as being a unique and singular threat. You’d think we might get more that a WNBA player back in return for him.

What I've seen is that she knelt during the National Anthem.

Is there any off-brand "arms dealer" out there who isn't considered "notorious"?

That’s one thing I’ve never fully understood: for better or worse, the US government’s general policy is that it won’t pay ransom to terrorists for fear that it only encourages them to take hostages.* Why are prisoner exchanges treated differently? One explanation I’ve seen is that we don’t want to “finance terrorism” but that seems secondary to the primary reason we don’t pay ransoms (see above) and, in any event, you could just as easily say we don’t want to “facilitate (whatever the prisoner we’re exchanging might do once released).” *Let’s set aside for now that situation in which the government returned $400 million to Iran once it released the hostages.

The trade was always going to be lopsided because the U.S. doesn't lock up harmless, famous foreign nationals to use as bargaining chips.

Is there any off-brand "arms dealer" out there who isn't considered "notorious"? While Holder did specifically refer to him as "notorious" he does seem to be a uniquely skilled arms dealer. Dude built a cargo airline of 6o planes to deliver arms to the worst people on the planet.
