There was a Jack Ryan novel about this. The Campus saved the day.

No one cares about what’s happening in Ukraine, OK? You bring it up because you care. (Not really.) And I think it’s nice that you care (not really). The rest of us don’t care.

I care, but I doubt any US president from Clinton to Biden would do anything different. Remember Bush and Georgia?

If Russia takes more of Ukraine with no response, we should expect more from them in the next three years. And we should expect a CCP move on Taiwan in that same three-year window.

I still don’t see Afghanistan as a boondoggle. American interests would have been well served if we had maintained our presence there just as we have in South Korea..
As for this instance, I do not expect much of a response from our current regime, and whatever response comes will be badly botched. And more aggression and more challenges will follow.

My son was saying this would be the first armed conflict between European nations since the end of World War II.
Is that really true?

My son was saying this would be the first armed conflict between European nations since the end of World War II. Is that really true? No. Kosovo is the one that immediately pops into mind. But there have been plenty of others.

Those Yugoslav wars were a mix. Bosnia and Croatia had Serbian-led armies that claimed to be represent Serbs in those territories, but we know the Yugoslav army was involved.
Russia did take the Crimea and there were some deaths.
