You are hereby christened Mr. Just Because. MJB for short. I’d call you Mr. Whatabout, but that one already belongs to YF. Explain what you mean.

We went to the DC Pride Parade today. My son saw a pair of bare breasts, and I got a contact high from all the weed being smoked in DuPont Circle. But other than that, it was a fun time. Lots of friendly and interesting people. My wife’s nephew is still there — hopefully he gets some action.

This is going to cause some consternation. I know there is a lot of leeway in the U.S. Flag Code, and a lot of things that are ignored (like how it's used in apparel and merchandise). But displaying it at the same level as the Pride flag and in this arrangement does seem to be a clear breach of etiquette that I'm sure will set Republicans to pouncing.

Isn’t it the Catholic Church’s position that it’s OK to be a homo as long as you never, ever act on your homo urges?

Isn’t it the Catholic Church’s position that it’s OK to be a homo as long as you never, ever act on your homo urges? The Catholic Church is against anyone, who isn't in a Church sanctioned marriage acting on their urges. Which means they are as against me -- married by an old Jewish man in Las Vegas -- or you -- on his sixth marriage -- acting on our urges, as they are against the Sister of Indulgence acting on theirs. Oddly, I don't feel like a victim of Catholic Church discrimination. I probably should take Communion, but my wife and I are welcome in any Catholic Church for service. The Bishop came to the Hospital at Easter, and prayed with/for us, when Fiona was there, just as he would have for the child of any parent. Our daughter was baptized by the Church. And, certainly, as @deleted points out, The Catholic Church not only doesn't call for the death of homosexuals, but was at the forefront of ministering to folks suffering during the height of the AIDS crisis. Which is why it's especially upsetting to me that the Dodgers would include, and give an award to, an anti-Catholic group, and site their "life-saving" work as a part of the reason. Catholic Hospitals, schools, charities, religious orders, and lay people do life saving work on a regular basis. Catholic organizations are welcoming, and housing refugees. They volunteer in prisons. They feed the hungry. They help unwed/indigent mothers, and facilitate adoptions. They provide scholarships to the schools they run. I'd like someone to let me know how this stacks up to the life saving work of the Sisters of Indulgence.

You don’t have to convince me. Their stance on the homos is way down on my list of grievances with the Catholic Church.
Just pointing out that “accepting” someone as long as they never do the things that make them who they are is not really “acceptance.”
It should go without saying that Muslims chopping people’s heads off for being gay is worse.

Please show me the post in which I wrote that the no religious institution treats the LGBTQ community worse than the Catholic Church. I'll give you a hint. It doesn't exist. If you want to say that they should be mocking Muslims instead, or at least in addition to Catholics, that would be a valid point. Of course, you aren't interested in the truth. You would rather make up an opinion for people who dare to disagree with you.

I guess that's something positive. People in marginalized groups like the LGBTQ community are victims of bigotry in ways someone like you will never understand. Hell, they are victims in a way I won't ever fully understand, but at least I have some empathy and try. I get that you are grateful for what they did for you and your family, but that doesn't mean they are above criticism. By the way, neither are Jewish people in this country. People of my faith have mucked some things up, too, here and abroad. The Catholic Church's good works do not put it above criticism, and they have earned it in many ways. If you don't think they have historically played a role in the bigotry against the LGBTQ community, you haven't been paying attention. Then there was that issue of Catholic Priests abusing children and the church protecting the priests instead of the children. You caught that bit, right? Where does that fit in your equation? You know how people justified the horrors committed by priests who were protected by the Catholic Church? They made arguments like yours, that it was some how okay because the church does so many wonderful things. Ask the victims of abuse about that one.

Of course it is, but we have some posters here who will attach all sorts of ridiculous opinions to people who dare to disagree with them. Saying the Catholic Church is wrong in this area and they could do better is not the same as saying they are as bad as what is done by other religious institutions in other places.
