Some migrants arrived in the Vineyard today, and it sounds like the community embraced them, which is terrific.
I'm sure they will soon be thriving.
I'm not sure why this is upsetting some.

Because it was a stupid stunt by DeSantis to make some kind of statement about immigration. He doesn't care about actually helping the pawns he used.

If we are going to have open borders, then the whole country should participate in providing shelter to these migrants.
And, the cities/states that have publicly, through votes of their legislatures, stated that they will serve as sanctuaries, should be top of the list for settlement.
Martha's Vineyard sounds perfect. Lot's of need for unskilled labor in the high season, and lots of empty houses, owned by multi-millionaires, that could be used to house migrants in the off season.
Who will be the first to open their home? I know there's at least one prominent social media influencer who owns an oceanfront estate on the island that could put up at least a few.

I know this is everyone's new favorite way to own the libs, but putting these vulnerable people on planes and busses so you don't have to deal with them is just so shitty. And, nobody answered me on the other thread about this a little while ago, so I'll ask again... Isn't this, by definition, trafficking?

I don't get this.
These people made a trek across Mexico, but it's somehow demeaning and dehumanizing to put them on a plane or bus, to take them to a city that has publicly declared themselves to be a sanctuary?
And, just so we're clear, the Mayor of Chicago, who criticized Abbott, put some of the migrants who arrived in Chicago on a bus to a suburb, without notifying the mayor of that suburb.

Would you rather them stay in Texas, where they'll be whipped by border guards and the kids will be put in cages?

So let me get this straight...the governor of Florida used Florida taxpayer money to fly people from Texas to Massachussetts, just to gain a little bit of MAGA clout?

Better to own a lib by trafficking humans and wasting money than to never own a lib at all.

I don’t understand why national crisis, caused by federal mismanagement, should be treated as a regional problem.
Why should a few communities have to deal with this.
And, if a few bus loads arriving in D.C., Chicago or New York creates an emergency situation, then maybe we need to reevaluate the whole situation.

I’ve said this before, but they could send these people to California and nobody would notice or care. They’re sending these people to certain places as a blatant stunt, and pretending it isn’t a stunt. They don’t give a god damn about these people.
It’s so odd, as a born-and-raised Southern Californian, that this is such a huge issue in red border states, because it is such a non-issue here, and never really has been, at least not that I can remember. “Illegal immigrants” have always been a part of our communities, and nobody cares.

There seems to be a general misunderstanding (shocker) as to what a “sanctuary city” is.

There are a lot here, as well. And, don’t discount the strain that’s already on the facilities that house homeless people. Homelessness is already a HUGE problem here, and gets worse seemingly by the day. These places don’t have enough room or resources to help the people who are already here. I don’t imagine it’s much different in other major cities as we emerge from the pandemic. And it has nothing to do with immigration.
