1. Please learn how to use the quote function. 2. Sean Penn, an actor, is an elected member of Congress? Please don't be this absurd if you wish to debate this.

Yeah not going to do that search. Was just saying it's pretty much known to most people. Guess some needed a congresswoman to become woke.

Were you under the impression that congress spent more time in the office and less time raising money or did you just learn that from AOC?

I was fully aware that running for re-election required a lot of time fundraising but I did not think that Congressman and women spent roughly 5 hours a week in their offices, nor I'm confident did you since you apparently thought Sean Penn was in there, like, reading lines or some shit for his El Chapo movie.

What did I state that was untrue? People keep treating this like she's a crazy person and yet they express nostalgia for the 1980s where rich people paid a lot more money in taxes. The top marginal rate was 70% under Reagan ... until the Economic Recovery Tax Act of 1981 (signed into law on Aug. 13 of 1981). That’s like saying “Obama was fine with federal restrictions on embryonic stem cell research.” That kind of disingenuous b.s. is beneath you.

AOC needs a chief of staff to run things past. Some social media depends on being spontaneous. Other (her confusion in thinking the Pentagon had an extra $21 trillion lying around) would be easy to get a handle on with a discussion or sounding board.
She’s going to be under that microscope, and as DD noted, Republicans are going to lie about what she’s saying. She can’t do them any favors.

FWIW I took it to mean him saying "here's how recent this 70 percent rate was," not that it was enacted by Reagan. I don't think he's trying to mislead anyone.

Don’t the rich pay about the same percentage, when you factor in the various deductions and tax shelters that used to be available?

What is the $21 trillion thing? Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s $21 trillion mistake“$21 TRILLION of Pentagon financial transactions ‘could not be traced, documented, or explained.’ $21T in Pentagon accounting errors. Medicare for All costs ~$32T. That means 66% of Medicare for All could have been funded already by the Pentagon.”The figure she's citing is one economist's estimate of waste in the DoD. But as WaPo writes: Regardless, in the situation Skidmore is describing, the $21 trillion is not one big pot of dormant money collecting dust somewhere. It’s the sum of all transactions — both inflows and outflows — for which the Defense Department did not have adequate documentation. “The same dollar could be accounted for many times,” as Philip Klein wrote in the Washington Examiner. They gave her four Pinocchios for that one. She tried to stand by it. Then she went to the it illustrates my point anyway well. It was an early misstep and one that won't sink her, but it was a misstep for sure.

That was almost 40 years ago. Imagine asking people if they are OK with a 17% interest rate for their mortgage. Ask whether they want to pay 8%? Back to the good ‘ol days. You also could get a lot more than .5% on a 12 or 24 month CD back then.

Depends on how you define “the rich.” Top-most percentiles account for a substantially larger proportion of federal income tax receipts than they did in the 80s ...
