No one is attacking LGBTQ+ people.
Actions have been criticized.
And, it’s hard to come up with a good defense for the sexualization of kids, the destruction of women’s college swimming, or putting biological males — some convicted of violence against women — in prisons, that are populated with victims of sexual violence.

Where does the trans trend eventually end? Will it fade away, no different than grunge rock and other brief obsessions of youth, in their time and place? Some of this just seems unsustainable.

However you want to describe it, what we've seen in individual competitions, including he events that Lia Thomas entered, have been wholly unfair to the other competitors, and the trend is a threat to women's sports at large. |

It’s difficult for me to understand how this question, or movie, can be seen as hateful.
And, the only people mocked are the ones who can’t answer the question, or who her mad at the very idea of the question.
And, then there the whole argument that maybe you should watch a movie before writing an article about it.
For years, right-wing commentator, Daily Wire host, and all-around shitty provocateur Matt Walsh has used his platform to go after trans people. So it’s not surprising that this essentialist ideology has become the centerpiece of his new documentary, What Is a Woman? The film, which premiered on the Daily Wire’s website earlier this month, faced controversy leading up to its release. Now, the Daily Wire has bought ads on major social media platforms like TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram, to promote the film — and so far, even though the documentary seems to violate TikTok and Meta’s policies against hate speech. Though the platforms prohibit dehumanizing, mocking, and/or hateful speech about transgender people, the ads have been allowed to stay.
Since coming onto the conservative scene in 2014, Walsh has continuously made harmful comments about the LGBTQ community on multiple platforms. Last year, he published a transphobic children’s book called Johnny The Walrus and vowed in January to “wage an all-out assault on gender ideology.” The new documentary continues to push this narrative by masquerading behind trying to “uncover the truth” of what makes someone a woman. In his usual condescending deadpan, Walsh interviews academics, psychologists, and trans people themselves about transitioning and asking people how they know they are a woman. He attends a women’s rights march trying to find the answer and even makes his way to Africa to ask a tribe of men how a woman is defined. When reached for comment, a rep for the Daily Wire said, “We are proud of the documentary and stand by it.”

Is there any way to look at this as anything except problematic?
These numbers can’t be attributed to just broader acceptance, drawing out those who would otherwise not be comfortable ideras trans.
Young people are impressionable. This is going to be incredibly harmful to many young people, and we’re not prepared for it.
The idea of even helping kids who are confused will be seen as transphobic and “conversion therapy”.
And, have no doubt, kids like Liz’s non-bibary child will feel like they are letting their parents down if they identify as CIS.

Anecdotally, we'd have to assume that the numbers have only gone up since 2020.
So, it's concerning to se that the pediatrician, who is quoted in the Times' piece and who is helping families navigate this, does not seem curious about the sharp, sudden rise in the number of youth identifying as transgender.
“It’s developmentally appropriate for teenagers to explore all facets of their identity — that is what teenagers do,” said Dr. Angela Goepferd, medical director of the Gender Health Program at Children’s Minnesota hospital, who was not involved in the new analysis. “And, generationally, gender has become a part of someone’s identity that is more socially acceptable to explore.”
The notion of what it means to live as a transgender person is also shifting. Dr. Goepferd, who is nonbinary, noted that many teenagers would not necessarily want or need hormones or surgeries to transition to another gender, as was typical of older generations.

I don’t have any issues with drag queens.
But I don’t know why liberals won’t concede that most activities that include drag queens probably aren’t child friendly.
And, I’m guessing most Dems — and particularly Dems in Michigan— want to run on, “a drag queen for every school.”
