Has getting right with the online world replaced going to the gym as the hottest New Year’s resolution? It feels to me more like "I'm not into social media anymore" is the new "I don't own a TV." And as someone who hasn't been on social media in about a decade (no this doesn't count), I'm appalled.

It strikes me as part of the overall attention-seeking performance. Look, I am evolving! See, I am a BETTER PERSON! I think Pearlman’s is more genuine than the other one, which has already devolved into a smoke screen to tweet at famous directors. I am going to tweet nice things designed to help make my world a better place.

I am going to tweet nice things designed to help make my world a better place. My late father-in-law deserted his family, including my wife as an infant, for his mistress. But for her entire upbringing, my wife would hear from people, “How could your mom divorce that nice old man!?” Some people are very, very crafty at constructing an image.

You saw him as the Kitty Kelly of sports biographers. After the Payton book, I would have agreed with that. He was always surprised at the reaction to it and I wanted to say, "Have you read it?" I don't think his books since then have been nearly as salacious.

Sounds like something that could have been written by 75% of those on this board.

It’s KIND OF genuine. But it’s a Band Aid. It’s treating a symptom. The disease is being rigid and intolerant and hubristic and incurious. It strikes me as part of the overall attention-seeking performance. Look, I am evolving! See, I am a BETTER PERSON! This is the answer. Anyone can go through all of this and stop being a dick on their own. These people have to declare it, because it is important you know the struggle they are going through and how they're such good people, really. Not the assholes they look like online.

I used to pop off of Facebook quite a bit about politics. I thought I was bringing a thoughtful and reasonable voice to the table - and, really, I was!
But literally almost no good can come of it. Now that I’m actually part of a community in which I need to interact with other humans for my children’s sake, I post almost nothing of consequence, at all.

I'm FB friends with quite a few people from this board and most are very restrained on social media. Dick is one of the few who courts and engages in debates on his FB page, but it's nowhere even remotely close to Pearlman.

And yours was never grandstanding, it was legitimately seeking other opinions...
