The “problem” used to be, as some would have it, that public companies were too motivated by short-term profits to invest in people and technology. Now the concern is that some companies are not profit-motivated enough and so competition is “not fair”???

Why would any environmentally conscious person drive to a mall to shop when they can improve their green footprint by shopping from home

Someone stands up to Uber, though of course not an American someone. London Won't Renew Uber's License, Saying Unauthorized Drivers Took 14,000 TripsAll of those rides, according to Transport for London, were uninsured as a result of the drivers' ability to manipulate Uber's systems. It adds that some of those drivers were unlicensed — and in one case, a driver whose license had been revoked by the agency used the security gap to pick up new passengers.

What really gave Amazon huge jump was not having to charge sales tax for years and also local business taxes that big brick retailers had to pay. State taxing authorities were sleeping at the switch.

Sales tax/shipping costs always seemed like a wash to me. At least in the beginning.

I know the "new" jobs don't have pensions.
What percentage don't have benefits?
There are jobs, and there is real employment. The latter is all that's important.

I wonder how vestigial employer-based benefits will end up being. Pensions were clearly a remnant of less efficent and more prosperous times. Perhaps benefits will be the same. (the social stigma about living at home post college, likely also vestigial) The flip side is someone will provide those things, and the default will likely be big gubmit.

Pensions were clearly a remnant of less efficent and more prosperous times. How can times that are "less efficient" also be "more prosperous"?
