I don't imagine that they actually would try to raise the rate to $22 an hour, but I don't see how this does anything except for shrink the number of entry level jobs.
California will enact a sweeping new approach to regulating fast-food restaurants after Gov. Gavin Newsom said Monday that he had signed a bill to effectively set a minimum wage in the industry and to create new safety and anti-discrimination rules.
Amid resistance from fast-food companies, the State Legislature last week approved the bill, which will set up a 10-member council composed of representatives from labor and employers to oversee the industry’s labor practices in California.
The council can raise the industry minimum as high as $22 an hour next year, versus a $15.50 minimum for the rest of the state, after which the minimum will be adjusted for inflation. The council can also issue new labor standards.
“Today’s action gives hardworking fast-food workers a stronger voice and seat at the table to set fair wages and critical health and safety standards across the industry,” Mr. Newsom said in a statement.

The car loans are what blow me away the most.
‘I’m paycheck to paycheck.’ I make $350K a year, but have $88K in student loans, $170K in car loans and a mortgage I pay $4,500 a month on. Do I need professional help?
Question: By the end of 2022, I will have made $350,000 before taxes as the sole breadwinner and head of household. This is a great starting point and I’m very aware how blessed we are to be in this position, but I’m always looking ahead on how to improve. I currently have $88K left in student loans (originally close to $150K) and very little credit card debt (less than $2K with more than $25K available). I have two auto loans totaling $170K for two electric vehicles at 5% interest.

Can the Washington Post really not do any better than this? I thought it was actually a pretty interesting column. Not everything needs to be viewed through a political and partisan lens. She is an economics writer (and a libertarian-ish one FWIW): she explained her views as to what is driving price increase and then gave some historical context surrounding the economics a food production. This guy is focused on what was just a dumb kicker at end of story. One bit

"Landlords should not be able to simply raise rents to any level they want, any time they want." Hey Bernie ... there's this thing called a market that prevents them from doing that. He doesn’t say what he’s paying, but a $200 increase in Brooklyn doesn’t sound awful. Lots of rents are going up in NYC now because some COVID discounted leases are expiring. He does not like many of the replies he gets to this.
