If you want to walk 26 miles over the course of seven hours, go do it.
You don’t need anyone to organize a marathon and close down streets to do it.
When you’re ready to finish one in under six hours, sign up for a marathon.

Public streets shouldn’t be closed for an extra two hours so you can walk a marathon course. Volunteers want to go home. Get going, or go home. Certainly after six hours they should be clearing the course. I recognize that 26.2, like Everest, motivates people. I get that. And I was one of those people who put the cart before the horse, once upon a time. I just think people equate distance (or altitude, as it were) with accomplishment, when a fast 5K, for instance, is actually more impressive than just "finishing" a marathon.

I think we’ve finally found a debate more pointless than “What is longform and who has earned the right to claim they are part of the club?” and it is “Are slow fatties fake marathoners?” There's no debate.

I think there's some stolen valor at play here.

I think there's some stolen valor at play here. Yeah, that's absolutely fair.

I don't even need to be "impressed." But don't post for months on end about your dedicated training, then leg out a 6:33. And these were former high school athletes here. Far more accomplished high school athletes than me. I know you've always been a fast runner, but some people actually do have to bust their ass to put up the times you mock. (No, not me. I have one embarrassing marathon time and one I'm actually proud of, neither of which I will share due to the fear of being called a fraud.)

Is that the same Talia Jane involved with the Yelp wage issue? Why are people buying clothes at the store, with regard to size availability? Don't people just order the sizes they need online? Yes! She’s a great follow. arlenehirsch.com/the-not-so-tragic-tale-of-talia-jane/

People who know the sport. Maybe the people who finish marathons in 6 1/2 hours don't care if those people are impressed. Maybe they're not trying to impress "people who know the sport."

We had a thread in which literally no one objected to calling out Everest climbers as essentially rich asshole frauds, but this touches a nerve? Those fucking people put their lives on the line.

So, how long after those two finish their 7-hour trek do they put the dreaded 26.2 sticker on the back of their Subarus.
