Arlington Heights is fine. It has a cute little downtown, that embraced outdoor dining during the pandemic.
But the stadium won’t be downtown, and no one attending a Super Bowl there will stay in downtown Arlington Heights, go to downtown Arlington Heights, or spend a dime outside of the NFL’s bubble.

Can we stop pretending that this has anything other to do than with your fealty to the Republican Party and blood oath that no good shall visit upon Chicago?

Can we stop pretending that this has anything other to do than with your fealty to the Republican Party and blood oath that no good shall visit upon Chicago? I like Chicago. I moved here. I live in the city and walk my daughter to her public school. But you are not going to show off Chicago in late January. It’s miserable here then. The only incentive to hold it here is as a payoff to help get the stadium built/funded, and I’m not even sure that’s in play.

The NFL has gotten ice storms in Dallas and Atlanta, and zero degree weather in Minnesota.
With all the planning that goes into these events, they aren't hosting one in a cold weather city unless there is a very good reason.
The Bears building the Abbott Laboratories Dome in Arlington Heights is not a good reason.

Chicago sucks year round. I like it more than you do, but to the extent we both think it "sucks," I think it's funny because we think so for different reasons. You think it's a crime-ridden liberal hellhole. I think it's a wannabe Brooklyn pretend city yuppie playground liberal hellhole.

Chicago sucks year round. Chicago is great. But not in January. The NFL can hold the first game of the season here. They can hold the draft here. But no one wants to come here in January.

Most stadiums hold 80-85k, so there's lot more people there that go to all the experience shit than the actual game.

Bears are already cheaping out. Roof won’t be retractable.
Will be interesting to see what their ask is for infrastructure improvements.

Oh, the non-retractable roof was a big topic of conversation on the radio this morning. Feels like a big bait-and-switch.
