LOL. There’s never any consequences for this kind of thing. Here's the best part. If you find the original piece on the Internet, it's been hilariously edited. Trump Jr. liked and retweeted posts by people who have suggested that the reported attack early Tuesday in Chicago could be a left-wing hoax, perpetrated by a Hollywood celebrity who has been outspoken in his opposition to Trump’s presidency, according to Splinter News and a review of Trump Jr.’s Twitter feed. The investigation has since taken a turn, with police allegedly questioning whether Smollett staged the incident.
Among those promoting this view are conservative commentator Candace Owens, whose post Friday was liked by Trump Jr.

LOL. There’s never any consequences for this kind of thing. To be fair, it was, literally, a conspiracy theory. It just turned out that in this case the theory was true!

Honestly, I'm still not sure he planned it as a hoax. I think "got beaten up by his drug dealer/ex-lover and concocted a preposterous cover story" might be a more likely explanation. Either way, he lied to the police. I have not followed the trial very closely, so this could be very obviously wrong. That logically seems a more plausible scenario, but the evidence shows otherwise. Jussie planned out this wondrously stupid caper in advance.

It blows my mind.

If he had been beaten up by a drug dealer or ex-lover, why would he make up the story? He and his manager reported the crime. If he truly had been assaulted by his drug dealer or ex-lover and was concerned about negative publicity or embarrassment, why even report it? That theory of the crime makes no sense. He wasn’t robbed or seriously injured. If he was truly assaulted but concerned about negative publicity he would have just kept the incident to himself.

Every time I think more deeply about this, I picture the scene from Liar, Liar when Jim Carrey kicks his own ass in the bathroom.

In all your years, as a lawyer, and on SJ Platforms, you’ve never seen a congenital liar? And here is a bizarre excuse ahead of its time: www.cs.wcupa.edu/~epstein/congenital.htm(fictional, but funny in the context of this thread.)

Does he get indicted for perjury over and above the current charges for which he has been found guilty?

I kind of doubt it, but from what I’ve read, that testimony might cause the judge to give a stiffer sentence. Perhaps some actual jail time instead of just fines and community service.

I can't imagine not seeing (and taking) the obvious path out ... they've got me, so my career's over, so at least come clean and get this shit behind me ... months ago.
