What is the most forgettable recent winner? Maybe “The Artist”? The sex-with-a-fish movie? I don't recall.

Parasite is the first non-English Best Picture winner. I could’ve sworn that A) “Life is Beautiful” won in the ‘90s, and 2) “The Last Emperor” was mostly in Mandarin. Apparently I’m wrong on both counts. Life is Beautiful lost to Shakespeare in Love, which was complete bullshit. I always looked at that year as the year that Saving Private Ryan somehow lost... Arguably Weinstein's greatest victory.

The Artist is probably the worst of the three. Green Book seems like a great choice compared with those three... I even liked King's Speech. I never saw Birdman. Slumdog Millionaire is another one that wasn't bad, but it never made any sense to me that it was nominated, much less won Best Picture.

I've seen Slumdog Millionaire multiple times. I liked it, but I don't know what else it was up against. I gave Birdman a chance. It didn't work for me.

I must’ve been thinking about Roberto Benigni winning Best Actor, because the lasting memory from that ceremony was him climbing over all those seats to give an acceptance speech. As for most forgettable, The Artist was dogshit. Never saw Chicago, but that also looked like dogshit. Slumdog Millionaire was really, really good.

Slumdog Millionaire had layers.
So did Chicago, but they were layers of shit.

Frost/Nixon as well, but yeah, it wasn't a great year.

I always get "Shakespeare in Love" and "The English Patient" mixed up. Maybe because I've never seen either. And Elaine Benes probably hated "Shakespeare", too.
