They don't have 60 votes in the Senate, so they better hope they find damning evidence. If they start this and end up empty like with Mueller, they are screwed. And I think that's where we're headed. They will eventually need 67 votes in the Senate to convict him - - assuming that the House inevitably votes to send Articles of Impeachment to the Senate for a trial. Sixty votes can break a filibuster; it takes a two-thirds vote to invoke a conviction. My bad. They’ll need extremely strong evidence of criminality to get a conviction is my point. It won’t be there. Even if there is a quid there is no apparent pro quo. Ukraine didn’t agree to investigate and the aid was still given.

Nice to see some of the jurors (Warren, Sanders, Harris) already have their verdict before an ounce of testimony or evidence has been presented.

I wonder how much of this is, "Well, we're not going to be able to beat him next year, so why don't we try this?" Very likely, none of it. No way the Dems think they'll lose to Trump again. Then they're as delusional as ever. I don't know any democrats who feel good about almost anyone running on their side.

Listened to the analysis on the 538 podcast and they seemed to agree that the best thing the democrats can hope for is the Trump is impeached by the House and then the senate refuses to hear the case, which would obviously make Trump and the senators look bad.
I'm guessing there are some democrats in the House who are from districts where Trump has done well who don't want to be in the position to have to vote for impeachment if it's something their constituents don't want.

Would it make them look bad, though? Or maybe a better way to ask... To whom would they look bad? Seems to me a it would all break down party lines.

If there is a way that a piano or a heavy light could fall from the ceiling and land on Mitch McConnell during all of this, that would be great.

I don't think it will completely break down party lines. I suspect it will be similar to the Kavanaugh hearing where a couple republicans will go against Trump and a couple democrats could go for him. Considering how many senators would have to vote against him for him to be removed from office, I can't imagine almost any scenario where they would happen. I don't know if it would make them look bad or not, but if you're a democrat congress person from a district that went heavily for Trump in 2016 or more importantly, still supports him, they're the ones who have to be careful. They may care about that, they may not.

Did YF's "enemy of the people" make the phone call to Ukraine's president too?

I need to watch "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure" again. Didn't one of them think a nation was a food? I do remember when Potsy thought a patella was a Cuban cigar. Sadly at the time, I did not get the joke. However, I still think that episode would have been better if The Fonz had been the only graduating senior on stage that night.
