[ Part of the issue, I think, is there’s very little important information to be learned about day-to-day politics, generally, as opposed to policy. I’d rather discussions focus on the UBI, or Big Tech and Antitrust, or zoning regulations, or, if politics it must be, something more engaging like data analysis or dissecting the journalism, etc. I was a little bit disappointed, for example, that the recent SCOTUS opinions got very little attention here despite having several posts dedicated to them. I'd loved to have engaged and usually have in the past on such things. I've just been so busy the last few months running around like a chicken with my head cut off from work to kid thing to work to kid thing to kid thing to work ... LOL you've been going to concerts and drinking like a fish.

She doesn’t even spell whisky the hipster way, without the E. She’ll never win Williamsburg’s four electoral votes.

Part of what’s happening here is overcorrection for the post-YF political discussion that was nothing more than a steady drumbeat of how dumb/awful/evil Trump is. Which is all true, mind you. It just gets way too repetitive. I will say, though, that I might pack it in after the next “OMG, TDS!!” reference. TDS

And, btw, I'm also confused by @double Down's earlier mention of Cernovich. Wasn't it Cernovich who filed the lawsuit, later joined by the Miami Herald, which led to the unsealing of the documents in the Epstein case? Why is he being portrayed as a villain here, who is trying to cover up for Trump, or anyone else? And, while we're asking questions, why is it only the Trump DOJ who is finally bringing these charges, that go back years? Why didn't Preet Bharara, who ran the SDNY under Obama go after Epstein for the crimes committed in New York? DAs not vigorously prosecuting sex crimes isn't anything new. Bharara should at least be asked the question. Not sure it's bad enough he'd get invites withdrawn from legal festivals, though. Absolutely ask Preet, and perhaps he can stop being treated like a celeb on Twitter for little beyond getting fired by Trump. But hilarious the way this YF post shuffles right past Acosta, the actual US attorney who signed off on the deal that kept Jeffery out of prison. Weird that it took the office of public corruption! to go after him.

This is silly. It's great to point to 18 accusations, but if you don't have even one that survives the most minimal scrutiny, what are they worth. You're not willing to tell me which one you find the most credible, and why? That's some bullshit, and it's a tactic designed to destroy people, without having to provide any evidence. The whole, "end of conversation" way of arguing a topic is ridiculous. It's exactly what happened to Kavanaugh -- who never met, or was in the same room as his accuser. Guy who beats drum for believing women in every context, on every thread, makes singular exception for the 18 women accusing his hero. Takes credible allegations, characterizes them as not credible, and wants someone else to prove it to him after he has dismissed every single word written or said about it to this point. Tells me it's "silly" and "some bullshit" when I disengage. Nah. Fuck that. It's all there, but at this point you could have pictures of the events and you wouldn't believe. I've been thinking this for a while, but this has crystallized it: Our political discussion on this board is stupid. I don't learn anything. All we get are alt-right-adjacent tweets and commentary that distort what actually happened, as well as re-litigation of events from the early '90s. I can't tell you how many times in the past few months I've read about something here, gone to read about it elsewhere to follow up, and realized that the discussion we're having is not ***AT ALL*** what actually happened. It was completely the other way around on the old board between say 2012 and 2016. That was a great link source within the discussion. This is just YankeeFan trying to skew everything and all of us falling in behind it. If someone came and took stock of this board's politics in the main, it would look mostly like an AstroTurfing effort from the Trump campaign. It's crazy. It's disappointing. Everyone likes the freedom of this board. But I gain no information or enlightenment when it comes to politics. Maybe the sports threads will start to get more action. Based on this information is seems like you are just a consumer of the political threads. What are you adding that may change the direction more
to your standards?

Also, when SJ sent us some of their B-list conservatives, they weren’t sending their best. They were sending morons like telegraph, plus some, I assume, who are good people. A non-dim person would have picked up on the centrist cues scattered about. Your results seem to vary.

I was a little bit disappointed, for example, that the recent SCOTUS opinions got very little attention here despite having several posts dedicated to them. I think the honest truth is we just don’t have enough people here. Part of having a big tent of opinions and smart people playing off each other is the big tent. I think we just need better people here. You and 2-3 others have shown your bulbs are even dimmer than before.

I'm just not sure what people expect from political discussion. It's always been a shitshow and it's just intensified since 2016.
A few more voices on this board (Alma?) might make it a slightly more nuanced shitshow, but I wouldn't expect miracles.

Am I the only one who doesn't know who telegraphroad was on the old board? That's fine. Not trying to "out" anyone, but just want to be certain in my lack of knowledge.
(I'm serial liker Donny in His Element, for the uninformed.)
