Maybe the fans should not go to the games if they're gonna boo. Maybe Pop would like that.

Pacers and Lakers in the “In-Season Tournament” championship.
Watched some of the Lakers-Pelicans game last night — the first time in a while I’ve watched LeBron on anything other than highlight reels. He is still unbelievable, and hasn’t lost a step from his prime.
It has to be endlessly frustrating to be a Pelicans fan watching Zion Williamson. When he’s healthy, he gives just enough glimpses of his full potential to make it unbearable to watch him come up so small in big games. Kind of reminds me of Ben Simmons in that regard.

I know I’m supposed to be cynical about the in-season tournament, but I really like it and think it was a great idea.

It helps that there’s a fresh team (Pacers) with a fresh superstar (Tyrese Haliburton) emerging.
And a bunch of these games have been awesome.

I like it because the Pacers are doing really well. Pacer fans rarely get cause for excitement.
But I must admit to no interest at all until I started noticing the favorable results.

I wasn’t interested in the group play - maybe because the Bulls were out of contention so fast. But the one-and-done intensity has been a pleasant surprise. The players are 100 percent bought-in.
It definitely helps with the regular season drudgery, which was necessary in this “load management” era of sports.

When the championship game is over, will the team celebrate? Champagne and all?
It’s pretty fitting if LeBron wins the first of these things.

How long can LeBron continue to play at this level, and does he want to?
Is his kid good enough to make the NBA, and would that motivate him to stick around?
He seems dedicated staying in prime physical condition, but it's got to be pretty hard to motivate to play at that level, when you've already achieved everything, and made as much money as he has.

What is he when he’s not a basketball player any more? This is all he’s ever known. I’m sure he’s motivated by continuing to build the case as greatest of all time.

There’s a whole cottage industry that sprung up just to tear him down and stop people from being mean to MJ. Seriously, it’s ri-goddamn-diculous at this point. LeBron will throw a bad pass during a regular-season game, and MJ acolytes will light up social media with “See?! Michael NEVER turned the ball over with four minutes to go in the second quarter! Case closed!” That would be motivation enough for me.

Gotcha. I didn’t have you pegged as a “LeBron comes up small when it matters!” kind of guy.
